NVFB YF&R Chair Profile
Hi, I am Jamie Perkins, the NV Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer and Rancher Chair. Grant and I are busy raising5 kids, 4 boys and a girl. While we do not get to farm full-time, Grant has a custom hay-loading business (that he learned from working with his dad) that he runs in his spare time, loading semi’s one bale at a time with an old hay boom, and we keep the kids busy with horses, chickens, raising Grandpa’s orphan calves, getting sheep ready for the livestock show, and dogs and cats, too! I was one of those kids lucky enough to be raised with a rope swing from the hayloft of our family’s century-old barn, and because of those experiences, I have a great love for farming and ranching which keeps me working hard to build the NVFB YF&R program and promote agriculture in any way I can!
2012 Discussion Meet Winner
Cory Shrecengost (left) won our DM Competition this year--he is a state officer for the NV FFA and did a great job, unfortunately, FFA had the meetings the same weekend as the national convention and he was not able to go with us and compete this year!
2009 Achievement Award Winner
Lee Mathews is only the second person to represent NV YF&R with this title, he attended AFBF's annual meeting in Seattle, Washington. (Click on the pic for more info or ask!)
Ag Lit Project
Each fall we select accurate agriculture books for elementary schools throughout the state and then take them in to classes and read the books and answer questions as we visit with the students about agriculture. Books are purchased and donated by the county FB's to the schools. Above is Dann Mathews, of Dry Valley, reading to 3rd grade students in Pioche Elementary in Lincoln County.
Harvest For All Project
Another YF&R Project that we have just started working on is a food drive that is done throughout many states and partners with Feding America. Click on the pic for more!
